Julia Galef
Julia Galef (née le 4 juillet 1983) est une auteure et podcasteuse américaine. Elle est cofondatrice et ancienne présidente du Center for Applied Rationality, animatrice du podcast Rationally Speaking et auteure de The Scout Mindset.
Parcours
Galef a étudié les statistiques à l’université Columbia. Après avoir terminé ses études, elle a travaillé comme journaliste indépendante pour diverses publications.a En 2012, elle a cofondé le Center for Applied Rationality1 et a occupé le poste de présidente de cette organisation jusqu’en 2016.b
Rationally Speaking
En 2010, Galef et son coanimateur Massimo Pigliucci ont lancé Rationally Speaking, un podcast sur la rationalité, le scepticisme et d’autres sujets connexes. En 2015, Pigliucci a quitté le podcast et Galef en est devenue l’unique animatrice et productrice.c

The Scout Mindset
En 2021, Galef a publié son premier livre, The Scout Mindset.
Le titre fait référence à une qualité commune aux personnes dotées d’un bon jugement, que Galef définit comme « la motivation à voir les choses telles qu’elles sont, et non telles que vous aimeriez qu’elles soient ».o Galef oppose cet état d’esprit de l’éclaireur (scout mindset) à un état d’esprit du soldat (soldier mindset). Contrairement aux éclaireurs, qui recherchent des preuves pour améliorer l’exactitude de leurs croyances et considèrent le fait d’avoir tort comme une occasion de réviser leur modèle du monde, les soldats recherchent des preuves pour confirmer leurs croyances existantes et perçoivent le fait d’avoir tort comme une défaite humiliante.p
The Scout Mindset a été salué par Philip Tetlock,q Scott Alexander,r et Dylan Matthews,s entre autres.
L’organisation 80 000 Hours a cité Galef comme exemple d’une carrière particulièrement réussie dans la promotion de l’amélioration de la prise de décision institutionnelle.t
